Reggae Dancehall artist Stonebwoy has celebrated his recent win of the prestigious Artiste of the Year award at the 25th TGMA. In an interview with Berla Mundi on Friday, June 7, the two-time winner reflected on his 2015 victory and claimed he also deserved the award in 2019, despite it not being announced.
Following his latest win, Stonebwoy noted the five-year intervals between his awards, suggesting a pattern. “From 2015 when I won, I came back for it in 2019 and I won it in 2024. Who knows, maybe in the next five years, I will win again,” he remarked.
Stonebwoy reiterated his belief that he should have won the 2019 Artiste of the Year award, if not for the altercation that occurred that night. “I trusted that should everything have gone perfectly that night, Stonebwoy would have been the Artiste of the Year. That’s why I am humbly asking for recognition if they eventually decide to announce it,” he stated.
The eight-time Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year had previously appealed to Charterhouse to declare him the 2019 winner, arguing that his scuffle with Shatta Wale on stage unfairly affected the outcome. The incident between Stonebwoy’s and Shatta Wale’s teams occurred during the 2019 awards show after Stonebwoy was named Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year.
