During a recent concert, Adekunle Gold addressed other sickle cell survivors, offering words of encouragement and solidarity. He stressed that, despite the challenges posed by the condition, it is possible to overcome life’s obstacles with determination and perseverance.
Reflecting on his own journey, Adekunle Gold acknowledged the lifelong struggle he has faced since being diagnosed with sickle cell at birth. He expressed thankfulness for being able to manage the condition, stating that while he does not entirely understand why he does not get sick as frequently, he is grateful for his health.
In a message directed at those currently experiencing the pain and discomfort associated with sickle cell, Adekunle Gold urged them not to allow the condition to hinder their aspirations or pursuits in life. Drawing from his own experiences, he emphasized the importance of perseverance and resilience in overcoming adversity.
Adekunle Gold has been open about his battle with sickle cell disease, describing it as a “life or death” situation. In a newsletter sent to his fans in July 2022, he discussed the difficulties he faced throughout his formative years, such as the limitations imposed by his condition and the impact it had on his social life and relationships.
Adekunle Gold experienced both physical and emotional challenges as a result of sickle cell illness. He recounted times when he felt lonely and misunderstood by those around him, regretting the loss of friendships as a result of the limits imposed by his medical condition.

Despite the challenges he’s faced, Adekunle Gold stays persistent in his determination not to let sickle cell define him. He cautioned fellows not to let the illness control their life, emphasizing the value of self-empowerment and resilience in the face of hardship.
